New Double? for .450 NE Hornady
      #218830 - 02/11/12 02:26 AM

Hello,

I have seen that in France ... a project ... maybe soon ... Novembre ... this year ...

http://www.naturabuy.fr/-450-Nitro-Express-J-C-SHOTWELL-SONS-item-1089825.html

http://www.shotwellsons.com/fr/cartridges/armes/

Base : Pedersoli ???

http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/scheda-p...mark-iv-24.html

Just a little problem : THE PRICE !!!!!!

.450 NE is at the same level as a very good .375 HH, but it has a better "Quantity of Movement" AND A HIGHER PRICE (too expansive in Europa):(

I have never shot this ammo , I feel it's a very good cartridge isn't it ?

Somebody shoot this cartridge ?
Do you know the Pedersoli Kodiak Mark IV cal. 45-70 ?

It looks from the photos like they are going to produce a back-action hammer rifle which is different from the older 45-70 (colt style) double rifle.

This will be interesting to watch.
Have you contacted them yet to ask them questions?

By the way, Welcome to NitroExpress!

Cheers

This new version of the Kodiak has a Greener cross lock. The regular Kodiak doesn't have this feature. This is a new actionpossibly using the old Kodiak parts?

I have several 450 Nitro's and it's a great cartridge!

I looked at the links and waited to see if anyone else commented.

At first I thought it was one of the rechamnbered Kodiaks rechambered from .45/70 to .450 NE. One or two of these were done by private persons, and later resold. One was sold to the PH the client hunted with. They probably will appear on the market from time to time. If they do, is their a reason they are resold? I would make sure the rechambered barrels still regulate adequately after the changes. I can't comment on pressure etc as I don't know much about that. But that should be considered - ie is the change safe. Not comment pro or con, but get that answered to your satisfaction.

Pedersoli doesn't list a .450 NE in their line up so they are not standard.

The rifle in the picture/link has a different finish on the barrels and the comments seem to indicate the rifle(s) are made from the Pedersoli Kodiak. Perhapes .45/70 barrels rechambered? Perhaps re-regulated? Perhaps new barrels fitted to the Kodiak receiver? Something to find out.

From what I gathered from translating the french, they are building rifles from Pedersoli parts. That sure isn't a Kodiak reciever but it's similar to the one I had.

The rechambered ones to 450 were to the 450#2 NE not the 450 3 1/4" NE IIRC.

Correct. At least one anyway, I couldn't remember the second one.

Someone needs to buy one of these and try it out and report back.

Someone is always trying to hot rod the 45-120 to duplicate the 450 3 1/4. The case and capasity is similar but since there are so many good brass makers.... Why bother?

Thanks for yours comments.
I'm still waiting for news about this "futur" gun ...

AkMike says :"I have several 450 Nitro's and it's a great cartridge".
Would you tell me please the "trade name" of your double in this caliber which means interesting,
between the .375H&h and the powerfull .470 NE.

For all purposes the 470 Nitro and the 450 Nitro are twins! Both throw out about a 480/500 grain bullet at the same speed. The 470 is a very few thousanth's of an inch bigger diameter. Hardly enough to make any difference.
I have a Searcy 450NE and a JP Sauer conversion to a 450NE from a 12 ga shotgun. Both shoot great!

$8100 to 10,783 is a lot of money for a Pedersoli.

For about the same money you can get a Searcy Field Grade or others that are built for the larger calibers.
