Brno 602 .375H&H
      #169168 - 08/10/10 07:06 PM

I have just purchased at a recent Melbourne auction, a Brno 602 in .375H&H in a "Classic" style and considering that I have not as yet taken delivery of the rifle I suppose that this question is a bit early in the peace but I need help as to what the correct scope mounts are and what I need to purchase.

I am looking for a Q.D. style that uses the existing dovetails of the rifle and would like opinions of types available in Australia and if you have a set for sale please send me a P.M.

Regards,

Jeff Gray

G'Day Jeff,

Congratulations, everybody need at least one .375!

Mate, I'm a bit biased on these things, so I suggest you at least look at the Warne range of QD rings that are available for the BRNO 600 and the CZ550 series of rifles.

Malcolm Gault of www.lynxoptics.com.au is a Sydney based fella and he also sells Warne Rings. So email him for a price and availability.
You can also get them out of the US from mail order places like www.brownells.com

Hope this helps.

Doh!

Can't help with info on the mounts but you are sure going to be happy with that rifle. I had one of those years ago and it shot MOA with 220 & 270 grainers without doing anything to the bedding (or rifle for that matter). I think I had Lynx mounts at that time (but I could be wrong).

Edit: Hommers post appeared before I'd finished adding mine. Be aware that the 550 mounts have the recoil lug (rear base) in a different position to the 550 magnum, and won't fit. I don't know how the 602 compared to the 600. I checked the Warne catalogue and only saw the 550 listed but they do make both (ie 550 and 550 magnum).

Thanks fellas, Homer, this will be the second one but it looked to good to pass up, Mauserand9mm, again thanks, the recoil lug is the question, I have looked at Malcolm Gault's website and the explanation is still a bit vague and is the reason I am asking you guy's. Ben, Thanks Mate, I am trying to keep the faith as you know and the fun will hopefully follow.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

Jeff

Why not go with Talley lever mounts in preference to those ugly new style Warnes. I have a 602 .375 and a CZ550 .416 with Talleys and the scopes can be interchanged. The Talley recoil lug is also superior IMO to the Warnes I've seen - much beefier!

Cheers.

GG

I'm not sure Jeff - I just buy directly from the US.

Here is a link to see what's available -

http://www.talleymanufacturing.com/cgi-bin/public_controller.cgi?view=products&category_recnum=1

Not sure if this site is still up and running but here is where I have bought mine in the past -

www.huntamerica.com

Cheers.

No worries Jeff

Those are Talleys on my .375 in Tilley Man's post about the ZKK guide in "General Reloading and Gunsmithing" if you want to see what they look like.

Hi GG,

Thanks for that, looks very nice but the price quoted to me was $240 whereas Warne were $130 The other post I looked at whilst visiting what you suggested was in regards to the Extractor collar and that the Mauser 98 was a good alternative and looks like a lot of people are interested in getting there hands on some?? Must look into that.

Cheers Mate,

Jeff Gray

Jeff

With the oz dollar so good at the moment I wouldn't be buying from these greedy buggers here - order directly from the US - you'll probably get them landed here in 2 weeks for $150 or so.

Cheers.

Hi GG,

That's true, there is not a rush and most things I got from the States was here in just over a week. Who would you suggest in the states, I will do a Google tomorrow and see who sells to Australia.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

Hi tkv000,

Thanks and I truly hope so, it looked to be a very "Classic" style and they said it was in tip top nick so here's hoping.

Who would you suggest for Talley Q.D. rings for the rifle, every place I look at say they do not want to send to Australia, weird, I thought that we were one of the good guys....

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

Jeff,
I will send you the name of a US supplier tommorow (details are on the work computer).
I last purchased from him about 3-4 months ago.

Hi George,

Thanks for all your help, that site "HuntAmerica" is no longer available but the "24hourcampfire" site was easy to use and hopefully all will be good.

Cheers for now,

Sorry Jeff - in my haste I forgot to do the "paste" bit. The second web site was www.bluebazooka.com

They don't list them on the site but they specialise in sending scopes to OZ and will source mounts as well on request. Anyway it sounds like you have it sorted via 24 hour campfire.

Let us know what you think when they arrive. The thing I like about the Tally's is the large recoil lug on the LHS of the rear ring. I haven't seen a new set of Warnes but am familiar with the older models and their lugs had no where near the surface area or bulk of the Tally's.

Cheers

GG

Hi GG,

No worries, I will let you know when they arrive but I must admit their quick, received a personalised Email this afternoon confirming it was for a CZ not the normal style mounts which is unusual for anyone to ask as they just want your money and if you have made a mistake bad luck for you,

Cheers,

Jeff Gray
