New Norma ammo and bullets
      #93868 - 09/01/08 12:56 AM

I got the Norma catalog yesterday, it had for instance a 8x68S with 200 grain Swift Aframe in 2900 feet, 358 Norma Magnum with Jaktmatch is under the way , also is 35 Whelen, 45-70 , and the 9,3x62 with a 21 grams Oryx bullet (325 grain ) in 2300 feet. that looks like a moose, wild boar and buffalo topper indeed.

Plus they have the .300, .338 and the .375 Norma Magnum They are based upon the .416 rigby case shortened down to the original lenght as the other Norma Mags like the 308 and the .358 NM. they look similar to them only bigger.

And for the Africa fans , the 375 Flanged with 350 grain woodlighes in 2200 feet, the .500-416 with 450 grain woodleighs, and the .500 Jeffery with 570 grain woodleighes .

Thankfully for me that will build a 6XC soon, a 100 grain Ballistic Tip and Norma Oryx is also coming out soon. I think that is a very good roe buck / fox , small deer ammo.

Hello Zaitsev,

yes, I also noticed the heavier bullets in Norma ammunition line (404 with 450grs!)

But I will try the "heavy bullet solution" in a small caliber:
a gunsmith modified a Sako rifle for me into 6x47 Swiss Match.
I will use this rifle for opening season on small roe deer (yearlings).

I tested due to the 1:7" twist the heavier bullets:
100grs Speer Grand Slam
95grs Nosler Ballstic Tip
95grs Nosler Partition
95grs Hornady A-Max (only for Precision)
95grs Hornady SST
85grs Sierra HPBT Gameking
85grs Barnes TSX

I think I will try the Hornady SST, they seem to be a little harder than Ballistic Tips.
I will, of course, try to place the shot closely behind the front leg.

Can you please provide results on your gun and reloading?
I think the 6XC and 6x47 SM are close relatives. (I measured 820 m/s with 95grs bullets, of course no max.)

best regards and good shooting!
Rolf

Interesting news, especially the 8x68S and 35 Whelen. I wonder if these products will be made available in the U.S? (Their proprietary line of Rigby based cartridges sounds cool as well.)

Any idea?

I think that they are really on to something with their new loads, especially the heavy bullets for the larger calibres. Norma is a high quality product - the brass is excellent too.

Sounds great - about that 9.3x63 load - Most interesting. Norma rarely adherred to the "masses" idea on maximum pressure. Being this 325gr. is only 40fps or so behind the normal factory 286gr. load, it's loaded to modern specs.
: I assume it's supposed to be safe in all 9.3x62's?

Here's a link to the Midway site with all of their Norma Professional Hunter (PH) line of ammo. I have no idea where to buy it in Sweden though. Hope this helps ...

Cabela's carries it. It's shown in their new 2008 Shooting Catalogue, and also on line at their web site.
