.425 W&R
      #38310 - 28/09/05 06:34 AM

I was at my gunsmiths the other night and he had an orginal .425 he was working on. The gun was increadible I especially examined the magazine, with the guide the make the rebated rim work. Overall, the round seems to a good performer. I am thinking about building a rifle in .425, should I go with the .425 Express or .425 W&R?

Thanks,

Aleko

Tony,

I have this 1909 Argentine Mauser action and a .435" barrel sitting in my pile of gunsmithing. I was thinking of a winter project.

this dont complicated the life of a man, this work makes it worth.
I have just now a lot of work with a 11,2x60 Schueler, give a original Mauser in 10,75x68 away. Dont thinking about time and money I spend and this is the rigth opinion.

pwm,

Very true.

Ratel 74,

One of the members here - I don't remember who right now, but maybe he would respond after seeing my post - has a beautiful 425 WR made by Harry Baelder with the traditional WR style magazine.

Good luck with your project and please post pictures of the completed rifle when it is done.

Mehul.

i think have seen this on the accuratereloading forum, a .425 WR lover have build his own with a standard mauser action, also with the original zick/zack magazin.
He works very long time with the magazin and get good feding in the end.
this is possible, I believe this is true, but making from a gunmaker will be very expensive because he will need so many hours.

Mehul,
it's me who owns that rifle. I am amazed about you memory. If somebody needs help on the dimensions just send me a mail. Those who worked on their own rifle pwm mentioned, got some starting help from me .

Robert,

A beautiful rifle, like a picture of Marilyn Monroe, just cannot be forgotten!

Congratulations, again, on your very fine taste and your interest in helping others who would like to build similar rifles.

Good hunting, my friend!

I have a 1950's Westley Richards bolt gun in .425 WR that I have been using as a personal defence rifle in polar bear country.

I shoot about 20 - 25 rounds a year through it, all at targets or other game, as I have never yet had to kill a polar bear with it.

It is a excellent cartridge, very hard hitting but fairly soft recoil, ammunition is available for it and not that expensive and it is a cartridge that deserves to be preserved.

I've inherited it from one of my grandfathers who had used it on numerous game, I think four times in Africa. His other gun is a .318 WR bolt gun that I use for moose. I will never part with either, not because of familial ties, but I just love the cartridges and what they do...and they do it so well.
