BGRC International Shoot
      #334346 - 10/11/19 11:58 AM

Gentlemen, In September 2020 the BGRC International Shoot is being held in Darwin, are any of the forum members thinking of attending? I am going to try to go with my son William but I will have to see as we have just been told that he will need a significant amount of dental work so I will have to see how much that comes to first. Otherwise I will be going, anyone else.

Matt.

I'm not currently a member, but should have re-newed. I would like to go anyway, to meet up with other people I have not seen for several years. And of course if possible join in the competition as well.

Perhaps organise a hunt of some sort afterwards. I don't have any properties any more, nor can afford an outfitter hunt, even at a 'special' price. Maybe a pig hunt though.

Something to aim for.

A year to work and save some money for.

If I go, you have to as well. Be good to meet up.

I will have to wait and see what these dentist bills are going to be like, if they are reasonable than we will definitely go however I am not sure that the words Dentist and Reasonable belong together, we will see. Would certainly love to go as I have never been to Darwin and there will be quite a few people coming from overseas as well.

Waidmannsheil,
will have to see, work is always an issue for me & now away a lot as well.
Like you never been to Darwin, would be nice to visit & catch up with the old crowd.
Keep us informed of dates etc please.
Unfortunately dentist & big bills go together like a hand in a glove - best of luck!

I've been wanting to attend one of these for a while. But unfortunately...well actually fortunately...I'll be in BC chasing moose. If there's one in Australia (or maybe elsewhere)in 2021 or 2022 then I'll be there

I wish I could be there. I had a great time at the BGRC match in Melbourne in August of 2018. But in September I will be back to teaching and not able to travel.

Matt, you should go if you can. Damn the dentist!

Well we got the quote from the Dentist and it is not as bad as we had allowed for so we will be going. I told my little man that we are going and he was over the moon. He absolutely loves going to the shoots. He has a job now with them where he helps setting the targets between events and gets paid $20 for the day. Not bad considering that he is only nine years old. He is saving the money to go to Darwin.

Anybody else going.

I want to go.

Is it open to any member or must one be on a National team?

I may have three trips hoped for in 2020.

My wife's trip in May to Uzbekistan, which is required.

A friend on here has invited me to hunt elk, which may or may not happen, depending on outside circumstances. Hunting elk is a dream of mine I probably might never otherwise do.

And the International Shoot. One could fly up and do a short trip. Hard to carry more than one or two rifles if flying. Versus eight days of driving up and back. Then one must do extra! I would like to drive to Cobourg Peninsula to do some photography and filming. And do some fishing for once when up there. If I could squeeze in some hunting without spending big dollars it would be a big plus.

I do want to get to this CLOSEST BGRC International Shoot.

What's your plans? Driving or flying? Planning anything extra?

Marrakai needs to chime in here! He is probably organising it.

John, William and I will be flying up on Thursday morning and flying back on Sunday evening late. A lot of the BGRC Vic members are going up and there a lot of chaps from South Africa coming as well.

Flying with two guns is not a problem and the competitions are designed so that you can be competitive with only two guns. Most events require Group 1 Nitro and Group 2 Nitro rifles. There are other events as well of course.

It is open to anyone, you don't even have to be a member. The more the merrier.

A lot of chaps are intending to hunt afterwards but I have to get back for work.

I have the competition schedule at work so if you are interested PM me your email and I can forward it on to you.

Yes Marrakai is probably heavily involved, so I am sure is Mick. Hope they can add to this.

Matt.

I will definitely be there. I will be flying into Darwin a day or so ahead of the shoot and I have already been forewarned that I'll be going on a hunt afterwards, so I guess some of my Aussie mates have made my plans for me!

As it's also a good opportunity for a holiday my wife will be coming with me as well but she will fly to Perth to visit with friends while I hit the bush. We meet up in Sydney again and fly back home, directly to Johannesburg.

I have taken part in all the international shoots except the one that was held at Bisley so I'm really looking forward to it.

JVW, great to hear you are coming. It looks like it is going to be a good competition. We will have to make sure that we catch up and have a yarn while we are up there.

Good to see. Us NEers will have to make ourselves known to each other in Darwin. Perhaps share a beer or two at the dinner.

Are any of the NT boys going?

Pato, Claydog, 264, others ?

Marrkai will be there without doubt.

Any chance this will happen after all?

Registrations were required by the end of June I think it was, so still two months before then.

Pretty sure Aussies will be shooting and travelling by the date of the original shoot.

A big uncertainty will be international visitors. I doubt we will know if they can fly in by June 30. But if so, maybe airflights will be discounted to fill all the seats? Also I'm sure differnet rules will apply to different countries once air travel is permitted again.

Marrakai, any news on this shoot, cancelled, suspended, still on pending ???

Maybe a trip to NT will happen for me after all, if state borders are re-opened. Going to see if the wife wants to fly up to the Kymberley and I will drive up and back. Long drive. Haven't been up there since 1983. Of course some fishing, maybe pig hunting, and who knows a buffalo might be in order or possible. One can hope. If not the Kymberley I have wanted to re-visit Cobourg Peninsula again for a photography and filming trip for a long time.

As far as I now the shoot has been cancelled as no international flights are allowed into Australia for tourists for the remainder of the year, so no international shooters. Hard to call it an international shoot if there are no international shooters. A real pitty.

I believe that next year is being considered.

The shoot has been postponed by a year to September 2021 or thereabouts. The whole Corona thing made the shoot an impossibility for this year.

Ok, here's the plan:

Quote:

The International Shoot will be postponed to around September 2021, with a final date to be set by the Northern Territory BGRC as the selected host Club.
.
The International shoot cycle will be pushed out one year, so the bi-annual event will follow this sequence:
Held in Australia in 2021, with very similar arrangements to those already advertised.
Held in England in 2023
Held in South Africa in 2025
And then that cycle will be repeated over the following 6 years, subject to any changes in international membership.
.
This all assumes that international travel restrictions will be lifted by then and COVID-19 will be under control and at a low level, so that it does not pose a major threat.

But then, that's only the plan!
