"The Adventurous Life of a Vagabond Hunter"

He didn´t start his life as a professional hunter. It was rather late in life. Swedish army, cowboy in Paraguay, sailor. 82 Airborne Division, 10th Special Forces as a Green beret. He joined the firm of White Hunters in Kenya. They all said he was tough and had ice water in his veins. When they were working with the film "The last Safari"in Tsavo Park. The cameras were set up protected by seasoned professionals. A mixed herd of elephant containing irritaded cows with their calves were pushed along towards the cameras. As the mass of frightened and angr elephant came screaming closer and closer, all the hunters started checking their safeties and had their rifles half rised - except Sten., who stood their with the heel of his rifle butt firmly on the ground.
In 1977 the hunting in Kenya closed and he moved with his family to Rhodesia. He worked as a scout for the Rhodesian military and did some hunting. After pice he continued to hunt in Zimbabve. He past away some years ago.
This is from the book from Safari Press ISBN 1-57157-098-5.

Very interesting.

Their was a guy who joined the US SF, Specifically MACV-SOG who served in Vietnam, can't remember until I find the book whether he was Swedish or Norwegian but he also led colourful life.

I liked this line "He worked as a scout for the Rhodesian military and did some hunting" I'm sure he did, the ultimate hunt in a very dirty war. just the fact he came out of it alive shows he must have been good - or lucky.

.

I Denmark there is a person called Lars Ørlund.
Lars I believe is a marine biologist, US Navy soldier in Nam, gameranger in Rwanda and a 100 other things. Today he is a JOurnalist, writer and xchairman for the Adventures Club.

Nice book

I re-read it in Zimbabwe at Buzz's home during Luc's hospitalisation.
Interesting life and interesting book. Not that sensationnal but a true account of not an adventurer life but a serious dedicated professionnal hunter.
Far from Bunny Allen or P H Capstick.:)
