Firearms Australia to Zimbabwe
      #380085 - 15/10/23 05:31 PM

Question for the Australian members. Anyone gone to Zim lately with their hunting rifles. Have not been since 2012 and it was a huge amount of stuffing around because of embargos placed by the Australian government on the Mugabe regime. Has that been relaxed with the change in leadership or is it still.$hitfight. Thinking about another hunt with CMS next year.

I was discussing this with an experienced outfitter only a week ago. The sanctions are still in place. He wont book anyone for a hunt in Zim unless they plan to hire a PH's rifle when they get over there. The risks are too great to stuff around with. He stated that he knows of several people who have managed to take their rifles to Zim on a hunt and not get in trouble. But he also knows of people who got pulled up by Australian Customs on return and charged. All of a sudden you're a prohibited person and there go your firearm licences. Just not worth it.

Depending on who your local Federal MP is, it might be worth talking to them to see if the sanctions regime can be amended to exempt hunters taking firearms to Zim temporarily. I don't like your chances, especially with the current ALP government but maybe worth trying.

For me, I'm reassessing my plans and may go to Mozambique instead.

I'd go to Mozambique instead.

I was told recently the sanctions are still in place.

The filth in charge are happy to mess with international hunters.

I haven't been since 2006.

Btw taking a sporting rifle in and out again isn't supplying Zimbabwe with arms. Such a ridiculous application of sanctions.

Fark! When were the Embargo's put in place?

Reason I ask is I went there in Nov. 2013 and it was plain sailing there and back. Had no idea about an Embargo and Customs never said anything about they knew I was going there. Might be as my flight in and out of Aust were to/from South Africa.
