The vintage safari "brake" or car

Does anyone modify modern 4WD's into these sorts of vintage classy safari cars?

Instead most "bakkies" seem to be designed with 4WD utilities with the high shooting seat and shooting frame on the cargo area in the back. Not classy and not sporting at all

in my opinion.

The old "safari car" was designed to allow quick exit to hunt and stalk on foot. East African rules forbidding shooting within 200 yards of a vehicle (or something like that).

But this discussion is more about these old vintage styled modified vehicles. I think they would be fantastic today with a modern vehicle modified in this way.

Those old hunting cars look marvelous, but it looks as though termites could do a tremendous amount of damage to the body.

This one is actually a modified Land Cruiser 75 series. Front axle was extended forward, lots of the body hand-made. The fenders are Rolls Royce...!

So it is actually a modern re-creation of the old style on a Landcruiser.

Fantastic, but I wonder what the cost was? (rhetorical)

Is it used for luxury photo safaris? If so by whom? Thanks for the info if you know.

I don't know the build costs of this particular one, but the way things are done here certainly an order of magnitude less than the same thing built in Europe or OZ!

It's operated by Cottars Safaris in Kenya, http://www.cottars.com/home.php, and was built by a Sikh an a Brit fellow. I saw the build pictures in the Sikh's office, lots of good ideas in there.

If I had my choice I would go with Xausa's Jeep. Lovely and rugged vehicle!

When I was a 16 year old kid, brand new cosmolined jeeps partially assembled and in a box of parts, were $135.00. That was when I had my sights set on a new Malibou. HA!
