Zebra skin is the first one home.

G'day everyone,

Just a quick post to show my zebra skin from Zimbabwe in May 2009. Just have to wait for the sable, waterbuck & kudu mounts now !!!

There is also a sable & a waterbuck backskin hanging on the chairs in the background.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hi Mark,

Perfect timing, at least then you only have to hang them once and run less risk of damage. May I ask who did you hunt with ?? and have you put any photo's on the forum ??

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

The zebra skin will make your trophy/gun room look really great. As I said elsewhere like the back skins too. Any special plans for them?

I think I might get the flat skins and back skins tanned in Africa next time. Usually get the shoulder mounts done here, but maybe the skins over there. Might actually get usable back skins that way.

How did prices compare - for the taxidermy?

Hunted with Mbalabala Safaris Jeff, here's the link.

John, the plans for the backskins are to recover some bar stools with them and maybe a foot stool as well.

The prices for the tanning I'm not exactly sure how they compared. In the scheme of things the tanning was the cheap bit, also the taxidermist will take his tanning fee off the cost of the mounts.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hi MarkR,

Thanks for the link, I have read the story in full and can only say that I envy you and hope that one day before the "Maker" calls me home I too get to share the thrills of an African hunt.

Well Done, I can just emagine how they will look in your new home.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

I hunted with the Stantons in Aug 07.
Had a great time.
I had my skins tanned in Africa and was quiet disapointed. I had to have them retanned here in Oz. I had my heads mounted here.

MarR and Fatboy404,
who did you get to do your taxidermy work in Africa? LifeForm had a half-acre yard of dudes processing zebra skins when I looked over the place in September. Their prices seemed reasonably full-up, though, so I went with Highveld, as recommended by the PH.

Collett's Wildlife Artistry did mine. They're in Bulawayo.

Cheers,
Mark.

Thanks Guys.

I like the look of zebra skins draped around but the girls in my family would have me flayed if I brought one home.
