FYI--see that the new dvd BODDINTON ON ELEPHANT is available --long dvd--supposedly lots of up close and personal shots with Ivan Carter..

Also saw that the revised version of Boddington's Safari Rifles is available...

Got my copy of Safari Rifles the other day, quite a tomb, only 500 of this edition, they wont last long!

Just an FYI on those who may be interested in the Elephant DVD..

Watched #2 DVD last evening..awesome dvd in my opinion..

a very well done informative DVD---going over everything from guns, to tracking, to field judging, conservation, etc...Awesome footage of some real close up shots..couple taken at 3 to 5 yards...YIKES...

I ordered the DVD and the book 2 weeks ago. As Craig B. has to dedicated them, the delay is 3-4 weeks. I hope that I'll get them for Christmas.

I just ordered the book from Craig's website on Monday and I had it on Friday. I've been devouring it since!

He's making an appearance at Griffin & Howe in January, so I plan to take the book there and get it signed.

Got mine in one week to the day as well...and agree. as to the book..been reading a chapter or two every evening...good stuff...

Have to send the dvd back however-disc one appears to have a problem and keeps getting hung up ...

Is it enough of a classic (i.e. a keeper for the library, or a read once only book) to justify the limited edition? Any oppinions?

It's definitely a keeper but I'm not sure how much more valuable it'll be over time verses a very well maintained standard edition. Unless you are a true book collector, I would save the money and buy the standard edition and take the cover off when you read it.

I hate to be a skeptic, but the Craig buff vid was very weak - lots of B.S. talking, not much hunting, and not well done at that. So I am going to hold off for a peak at someone else's Craig ele vid before jumping in. But that's just me.

FYI--this new one is two dvd's---the first is all hunting of elephant for 2 hours...the second is pretty much an informative one..providing info on judging, conservation, tracking, guns to use, areas to hunt, etc....

Each DVD has category's --so you can go in and find the category if you want to review one particular item and just play it..

Think for the low price for 2 dvd's, IMHO, it is well worth it...and agree, that's just me..

I know I'll get grief for this but I bought both--saving one --put it away with my others and reading the standard version..in fact it has now travled with me on 3 business trips..and sure more to follow--like to give the liberals at the airport something to stare at..

I got the DVD today. Also "Across Africa" and "African Hunter II".
Fortunately, the wife picked only "African Hunter II", wrapped it and set it under the Christmas tree. Nice, I can immediately view the video and read "Across Africa".

Boddington's elephant video is very professional and I highly recommend it. With every video he produces, the quality continues to improve. Much less in the way of ad placements, too.

That said, however, I have the same problem as Ripp above. I can't get the last third of the first DVD to play without hanging up. I wonder how many others have experienced the same issue?

Has anyone read enough of Boddington's Safari Rifles II to comment on whether you think he's a little too biased toward the Ruger rifles and cartridges? That's the opinion I'm gathering as I'm reading more of the book. When he starts putting the venerable .375H&H on the back burner in favor of the .375 Ruger, I get a little annoyed. I just think his opinions are a little slanted since he is now under the employ of Ruger Firearms.

I just finished watching Boddington's elephant DVD. Very well done, lots of information. I enjoy learning about the animal while watching the hunt. Also I enjoyed the part about the often overlooked trackers themselves.

Agree, there is some...but,, think it is very well rounded..he also stands up for other makers as well which you will find as you continue on with the book..I was stuck a big longer at a airport in Minneapolis this weekend..had some time to read ..think,IMHO, for someone who hunts Africa or someone who plans on going..it is a wealth of info...but hey, that's just me..

Yes, it is a very well written book and, admittedly, well balanced and respectful of other companies and their products. I've been devouring this book and others, some by Boddington, in preparation for Africa. You're right, it contains a wealth of information.

Hate to reopen an old Thread. I just bought Boddington On Elephant and found it very entertaining and informative from what little I know of Elephant.

The 1st Disc with all the hunting shots surprised me. I beleive there were 3 hunters with magazine (bolt) rifles and it looked like only one knew what he was doing. The other two took the rifle down to cycle it or fumbled around with follow up shots looking at the rifle. One double rifle hunter forgot he had a second barrel. If I was spending that much money on an Elephant I would be out there practiseing for weeks and months before going. I suppose these guys are too busy earning the coin to get there, to bother with practiseing.

I know very little about Elephant hunting and there also seemed to be a large difference between one shot kills and 'the big fellas' taking multiple hits. Not much in between. Anyone wish to comment on that ?
