Who's gonna try out North Fork Cup Nose solids?

Just wondering who is planning on trying out North Fork cup nose solids on game this year. I shall have a few on hand for my 9.3 x 62.

I couldn't get from the European importer in Norway, a pity, a shame. I am doing my best to smuggle some from the USA.

ErikD will use them in Zim for ele hunting.

I thought Erik intended to use the Norbert Hansen SuperPenetrator bullet? Perhaps I was mistaken.

I will be using the 470 (.475), 500 grain, NF Cup Points on Cape Buffalo (possibly a few plains game as well) this July in Tanzania. The regulate nicely in my Merkel at a nominal 2170 fps. I expect they will do exceptional work. I shot a Hog during the DRSS with Cup Points, not much of a test, except the first shot (knee cap shot) was approximately 150+/- yards.

In speaking with Mike at NF, if I remember correctly, he advises to use FN Solids on Elephant not the Cup Points.

500grains is right. I'll be using Norbert Hansens Super-Penetrator for elephant in Zim.

But I am trying to get ahold of some North Fork Cup Points to try out in Norway later this year. And I will still try to get some cup points to send down to France for you if you wish.

The NF Cup Point is a great bullet for buffalo, giraffe, eland, etc., but because it expands, it's probably not the best elephant bullet. Nonexpanding bullets are preferred for elephant.

OOPS Sorry 500grains, sorry Erik,

Norbert’s SuperPenetrator bullets and GS customs tend to merge in my poor head. I have trouble to tell them apart, same breed?
If Erik will provide me 2 ele, sure I’ll tell them apart all my life long
No doubts they can (and will) splendidly perform with ele.

NorthFork bullets appeal more to me as I am looking for expansiveness.

All things considered, none of these 3 bullets can be used with herd animals, mostly buffalo. The mere Swift A frame in 375 whistles through buffs’ shoulders undisturbed : SP, GS and NF might bore 2 or 3 buffs in a row.?

The entire purpose of an FN solid, such as those from GS Custom, Bridger, or the Norbert SuperPenetrator, is to maximize penetration, which as you point out may be a negative in a buffalo herd. The FN solids also create a wider wound channel than a round nose solid.

The NF cup point achieves some expansion for a wider wound channel, but maximizes penetration among the expanding bullet family.

Next step down would be the regular North Fork soft nose which expands more and thus penetrates a bit less. But still should outperform the Swift A-Frames, etc.

To be assured of not penetrating out the other side of a buff on a broadside shot, I would choose a Woodleigh soft. However, I prefer to hunt dagga boys rather than herds, so for me buffalo are a solids-only affair.

When I return to Zimbabwe in March of 2006 I will use North Fork Cup Points in my 450 No2 on buff. Probably the 450 grain, unless he makes some 500 grainers, I would have to thes them and see how they shoot. The 450,s shoot pretty good and the velocity out of my double is 2240 fps with 90 grains of RL 15. With 89 grains it is 2205fps. I am not sure which load is best as I have not shot them at 100 yards yet.

Agreed, I should have been more specific...

I'm planning on shooting a buff with them this year.

There's also a chance that i'll be hunting elephant on the same trip, but am waiting on the wife's decision.

Having used the cup points on two hunts and probably close to 20 Buffalo, I think they are the absolute best, and they work great on plainsgame also...The Bridger FN are about the best penitrating bullet I have used, and the GS Customs is right there also...

I will be curious as to how the NF fN solid works on elephant as I have not used it on the big boys..so keep me posted for sure..I know the Bridger and GS Customs will penitrate well on elephant...

I have heard that someone is now making the Bridger bullets again???????????????

All in all I could just shoot the cup points on everything but elephant I suppose and be happy as a pig in do-do! Might be tempted to shoot an elephant with one with a good solid for a back up, they do penitrate like the dickens, even if they do expand...
