Perhaps a question overdiscussed already, but...

... how light can a .375 H&H with iron sight be before the recoil gets excessive?

Let's have as many opinions as possible!

Depends on lots of variables. I am not interested in putting holes in targets and generally only fire a rifle when I want to kill something so I prefer a lighter rifle that is nice to carry around. I am willing to take some recoil in a trade off for less weight. I have no issues with a 375 of seven pound which is what my Mauser actioned 375 weighs. Mind you I don’t sit on a bench and shoot it for the hell of it.

I have shot a earlier model Blaser at 6 1/4 lbs with scope and ammo and its recoil was too snappy.

I liked my BRNO with scope, was just over 11 pounds, but with irons I suppose one could get away with 9 pounds. I'd likely not buy or build one lighter.

I used to shrug off recoil, quite happy to shoot anything, over time recoil finally damaged my right shoulder cartilage, fore and aft.

My .375/06IMP puts out 1912 .375H&H ballistics + a bit burning only 60gr.to 65gr., & that is the lower limit of weight for me with scope at 9 pounds even.

No, absolutely not a target rifle. A purely hunting rifle, shot at paper only to zero and perhaps a series or two to remember how the darned thing handles. I don't think anyone in Russia can afford to shoot .375 at targets much these days (mind you, reloading rifle cartridges is officially banned).
