Husky 9.3x62 custom
      #218963 - 03/11/12 10:56 PM

I had originally planned to build a custom 9.3x62 on a Brno 600 but after a tip from Fatboy I came across this rifle & for the price it was too good to pass up. After a 3 week wait I picked her up yesterday, a Husqvarna model 640 in 9.3x62.
Rifle has the original barrel in good condition with all metal work having been bead blasted & reblued, a new bastone walnut stock, rear sight with multiple leaves (100,200,500) has been added, timney low rise safety.

I'll shoot it for a while then send it to Darryl Stevens here in Qld to have a buffalo horn forend tip & grip cap added, trigger currently breaks at what feels like 6# so I'll probably add an aftermarket trigger assy too. I'll shoot it with open sights for a while a decide if I'll drill & tap it or just buy another 9.3 that I'll scope.

I'll take her out to the range tomorrow & see how good the barrel actually is.

Anyway some pics;

Nice. I looked at some original Husquarna rifles in Sweden at a gunshop. Good prices to but better to find one in Aussie for a project.

Very nice customised rifle.

Fantastic wood and looks like a very useful rifle. You will probably break some bones with that!!!

Took it out to the range today & was pretty happy with the results, it just needs a little windage adjustment & some adjustment on my part in learning point of aim with the iron sights.

First 3 shots off a rest at 50m

Same target showing some offhand shots as well

First shots off a rest at 100y, first 2 shots hit just below the paper, second 2 shots high but grouping well.

Same target with offhand shots included, still at 100y.

Now just have to keep practicing. ;D

Looking pretty good. Nice to see those 232's so close to the main offhand grouping of 5 shots, which is good.

I found with my 9.3's and .375's that when shooting off the bags, I had to hold/grip the forend as if I was shooting offhand, and rest the back of my hand on the bags. This made my bench or rest groups hit the same poi as offhand shooting. If I let the rifle bounce on it's own, as in BR shooting, the point of impact could be up to 3" off. At little more than 100meters, that much difference can easily make for a poor hit or miss, especially they you enter grouping capabilities between rest and offhand.

Very nice Vanders. Stocking looks good, well laid out.
I have always like a working open sighted Mauser in a Medium. Just something very cool about them
Your shootings results look good for a first bash, very good.

I agree with Daryl on technique. I rarely use a shooting bench in the proper/common thought of a shooting bench, as in a regulated range with the concrete bench at the prescibed 100yds/m. For all of my LR builds, they are all shot from prone off of there bi-pod and rear bag. GP rifles are tested some on the "bench" but all zeroing is off sticks. Mediums and heavies (I no longer can handle any heavies, but....)are zero-ed off of the high bench, standing as if off hand, but with forehand supported. No different than off-hand, nor if a hasty rest was taken in the field.
