Howa = Weatherby Vanguard and maybe Nosler?

G'Day Fella's,

As you can see by the subject, we all know that Howa make the Vanguard range of rifles for Weatherby but do they also make the actions for the Nosler Model 48 (etc), series of rifles?

I have done a dealer transfer of a Nosler Model 48 (or was it an NCR?) rifle for a mate/customer of mine(but I didn't look to hard at the rifle at the time)! It's only after looking thru the Nosler 2011 catalog, that it has got me thinking!
Any other forum users have any knowledge on this subject?

Also, apparently Federal manufacture the cartridge cases, that Nosler market?
Any knowledge on this product?

I hope you don't think I'm bad mouthing Nosler, as nothing could be further from the truth!
I'm a devoted user of a heap of their smaller diameter bullets and go out of my way, to positively promote their products!!!

G'Day Fella's,

I have done some research into this and apparently the Nosler action, is an investment casting, where as the Howa action and it's one piece bolt, are both machined from forged steel!

What got me thinking about this, was the exterior shape of the underside of the Nosler action, is a dead ringer for the Howa action!

There is a very good chance, your correct there Gryphon!
Nosler, could have copied a lesser design but I think they made a bloody good choice!!!

If you took an old Howa or Weatherby action and stuck a decent trigger, a good barrel, and a good stock on it, you would have a very accurate and durable rifle. I was never impressed with barrels and triggers as they came from the factory.

Agree totally--have owned several Weatherby's...just bought another one for my significant other..in 240 Weatherby caliber..currenlty othe only one I own..none have ever shot that well especially when you consider what you pay for them...the lightweight model we just bought has a suggested retail on it of $1900. --we got ours for less but still a lot of money for a factory rifle of this quality..IMHO...I had 5 lighweights through the years in .257 Weatherby caliber..none would shoot to the accuracy I want so got rid of them all..took a Rem. titanium action, had a gunsmith put a Hart barrel on it with a HS Lighweight stock..shoots really really well and is at 7 1/2 lbs with a 4-14 Var x3 on it...shooting barnes Trples all day long at 1/2 to 3/4 inch..at 3670 fps...
