My Dad,Mum and sister went as well as a couple of good mates.

All said it was very quiet.

One table selling jewelery, one selling knives and the rest was photo's on the wall and blokes selling hunts.

Tamworth next year I think.

Jolly Good.

Won't have far to go and accommodation won't be a problem.

There were two custom knife makers, half a dozen outfitters and a couple of booking agents, scope retailer, new swarovski dealership, taxidermist, David Southgate artwork, Shooters & fishers, customs, NSW far, Game council, Nepean hunters club.... few other things.

The show was about half the exhibitor number of last year apparently... crowd was OK for coffs. I was happy with the response. One of the knife guys I spoke to sold 2/3 of his knives so he was happy.

It is a small show... hopefully they move it to Tamworth and keep it in the one place for a few years and build it...

I am always happy to support the chapter regardless....

Tamworth makes sense.

The TREC is more than adequate to host such an event.
There is more than sufficient accommodation available. Budget to 5 star.
It's reasonably central. More than Coffs Harbour, anyway.
If people don't wish to drive there are plenty of bus, train and air services available.

And it's a nice place.

Sydney (Penrith like the old days) would be my recommendation if they want more numbers.

Tamworth would do nothing for me, and probably a lot of non-Sydney and non-NSW visitors.

I assume Tamworth has good flight connections? As that would be a must.

I think the Wild Deer Expo Show and the SCI Show being so close together would affect the sales and attendance of the SCI show.

Myself I would have gone, except I am in the middle of a vintage and ffffing stressed about some things to do with vintage at the moment, so no way could I be there.

Even Newcastle would be an ok option.

Yeah - I dont think they ever intended the show to get really big because they just dont have the volunteers. Tamworth is a good venue, as a lot of the organisers/volunteers are north of the Hunter hence why Coffs was preferred in the past.

Qantas flies into Tamworth.

IMO the key to this show is too get other clubs involved in a bigger way - Nepean, AHI, ADA, Buckmasters etc...

It needs a draw card imo.

Someone like me knows what there next hunt is, who with as well as who will do the taxidermy.
So for me it is about looking at whats new.

I would like gunshops and gunsmiths there like we had in Brissy.

With limited time I would rather go hunting than travel 5hrs to talk about hunting.

It is the same old cycle,no one goes so the retailers stop going and it all becomes a bit dull.

yeah ... must have the retailers - thats for sure! Remembering that in Tamworth we have one of the top 5 retailers in the state!!

Gotta try and have stuff for everyone and I know plenty people who would only be interested in looking at toys!

Went to Auburn and Warwick Farm years ago (88, 89 ?), Brisbane, Rose Bay and, last year Coffs Harbour. Missed out on Coffs this year. Accomodation at Rose Bay and Coffs was great. My better 7/8ths (I give her more credit than just 1/2) loved Coffs (Opal Cove Resort) in particular.

Enjoyed myself at each of the events. Shouldn't mix red wine and hunt auctions though.

I think having the who shebang, including accomodation, in the one complex is the trick. Especially for travellers. Rose Bay didn't have this but the regular commuter buses between accomodation and trade exhibit solved that.

I'd go to one at Tamworth (9 - 10 hours drive). With the Country Music festival there there should be plenty of facilities. Being 5 hours from Sydney and 6 1/2 hours from Brisbane it's reasonably accesible.........sorry Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth "viewers".

We need to have better details of the auction hunts early so some investigations can be done. It's dissapointing to see the number of donated hunts that pass in at auction. I suspect due to lack of understanding of what's involved in the package. A hunt donor who attended the auction would have to be dissapointed to see his hunt "go begging".

I miss the Black Tie element of the presentation dinner. Can't hurt us to make this concession once a year. The girls enjoy the chance to "frock up" also. T shirts etc don't add anything to this event.

Anywhere on the East Coast provides cheap airfare and ready access. Accomodation and trade exhibit in the same venue. Airport connection bus to the venue.

I applaud Ray, Gay and untold others for the great job that they do in putting this together and can only imagine the logistics involved.

Yes I like it when it is all one complex. For NSW and Qlders driving to it, using their car to go back and forth is easy. But for people flying in using a taxi is a pain in the arse.

Absolutely. The auctions really need to be improved.

First how about a new auctioneer. One year the current guy couldn't work out whether the prices were $US or $A, even though the listing usually said, so just decided it would all be $A.

Second, yes most of the auctioned items should be available to everyone, not just the committee well before the auction. Surely it could be put up a week ahead of time.

Thirdly, details of auctions should be given out if requested and especially to the buyers.

I bought an auctioned hunt, and immediately the outfitter disagreed and tried to add extra terms. It probably will work out OK, but when I tried to get the terms from the organiser, they could find any listing for that hunt.

I got to say, I am more cautious of buying anything from the auctions after that purchase. It is the second time I have bought a hunt auction. The first time I sat with the outfitter for an hour going over it, so was well informed.
The second time I made a rash purchase and was not so well informed.

A week ahead would be good. Can check out the varied dodginess of the outfitter, and some are very dodgy sometimes.

Not sure what was auctioned this year, but sometimes the offers are disappointing. Eg the usual, "African safari, 3 days with duiker and impala included." Then check out the prices of additional animals, ah $2500 for a kudu etc, ah NO interest.

But of course there are also good ones, worth bidding for.

More time to research would result in higher prices for the worthwhile items.

I think that if the donated hunt details were available a couple of months in advance that there would be more success at the auctions.

Plenty of time to check out what's involved in the donation and what extras have to be paid for additionally and time to check out the hunting outfit is what is required.

Once again, in case this sounds like "onlooker bitching", I do appreciate that these affairs do take a hell of a lot of organising and I applaud the efforts of all those who put their time into making the convention as good as it is.

The auction details used to be available well in advance.

"Onlooker bitching"? No, I don't think so.
