James

Good stuff.

Those ducks coming in quickened my heart in anticipation. No ducks around here at the moment, too damned dry again.

What species are they?

The Geese look grand too.

I love the rifle and the hunt with open sights. The art of shooting with open sights is a dying art, but perhaps being resurrected. I think all young guys (and girls) should learn with open sights before using scopes.

Nice looking rifle. And not a bad fallow trophy there either.

Gryphon
Agree. They are Canada Geese.

When they come in like that, they look so good
and perfect for shooting - you could almost get 2
with one shot out of that mob.

They look smaller in the first photos, I guess that is just lack of perspective (ie size), but from the markings you are probably right. I've seen these photos before and I think they were all listed as geese then.

Love to hunt them in NZ one day.

I saw a handy raft of them on the Sth Island a few weeks ago but the7y declined the pic opp and flew out into the lake further.I would have liked the idea of such an exotic in my pics.

Geese always look small from in front. Magpie Geese over here are the same. But like all geese, you can pick the fat / bigger birds before you shoot so you don't get some scrawny youngster.

We used to catch thousands on them in the UK when they become flightless, round them up with canoes and herd them into a wire cage - and that was before the population explosion happened.
