Hello all,

Although not an "antique guy" this piece spoke to me.....

The gun is in great shape, but some one has scavenged the sights from it & check out that rear dovetail 6.75"!!!

The gun is chambered is 577-450, has a 30" barrel with wide (1/2") matted rib, as well as a full bottom rib & cleaning rod (not original/appropriate).

I've googled & Bing'd away all week, but not finding much info. Anyone know much about non-military Martini Henry's?

What are the odds of finding appropriate sights?

Thanks

Mark

I've got one of those also. The guys over at
http://britishmilitariaforums.yuku.com/

really like those old Martini's and they'll get you up to spped quickly.
I Hollis was the retailer, not the maker. They put their stamps on guns of the trade. They are generally a lower grade of rifle but not always. Your's looks pretty good. How's the bore? Have you slugged the barrel yet?

Thanks Mike,

I have copied my post to the forum you suggested.

The bore is great (not perfect, but far better than I had expected).

I did slug it, came up with 0.462 which is a bit smaller than would be expected, I am still cleaning away though.

Mark,

I posted this over on British militaria for you, I'll post here also.

You need to be persistent in your search and you may find this sight.

Here are some other places to post.

I would also go to the Martini Internet resource list http://www.martinihenry.com/links.htm and scroll down the the list to the sights and sights parts section and contact everyone listed there.

After you contact them, then contact every dealer listed and see if they might have the sight.

Good luck.

Thanks Gents, that's where I thought I stood. I'll probably engineer something with modern parts, and shoot while I search.

Could I bother you to tell me a bit about the gun? I understand it to be "Greener type" is that correct? Was it a target gun with that big top rib? Is the bottom rib and creaning rod unusual, I see them on WR "improved" Martinis, but not Martinis? What do you estimate DOM to be?

Thanks

Mark

A copy of my Rosier MH sporting rifle with the rear site somewhat visible.
