chamber is given as 24 bore rifled but I suspect one of the 577 BPe cartridges

Yes - very nice indeed - bayonette for charging tigers or other nasties. Interesting accompanyment for a sporter.

Should bave a blade, like the Sapper's Musketoon or Baker rifle bayonette - sword bayonettes.

I'd be concerned bending that long slim barrel. I understand the picture make sit look longer than it is, but it's still long and slim, I'm sure.

It looks like one but also looks too far back along the barrel.

As others have said, really nice looking gun.

The stud is quite right place when thinking older bayonets placing round the barrel.

Phil?

As well, the idea of a bayonette mounted on a sleeve, aka Brown Bess might show fruit, however by the time the Martini Sporter was in use, bayonettes were a mere sliding fit and lock onto a barrel stud, as shown, and remained that method for a century.

If it was made for a British officer pig sticking is the answer. It certainly was a popular sport among that class. That is an outstanding Martini sporter with or without the bayonet stud.

I'll see if it falls in my budget - I do like my Francotte Martini's. But 3,000€ does seem to be a bit steep. ah well, we'll see...
