A Pheasant Shoot in Bremen, Indiana
      #67595 - 21/12/06 08:54 AM

Some friends and I went on a pheasant shoot in Bremen Indiana last week and some pictures from the shoot are at:

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p274/IndiansForGuns/Picture530.jpg

(Replace 501 with 502, 503 etc all the way till 530)

Between four of us, we bagged 21 pheasants, my personal score being 5. The preserve owners did a superb job arranging the shoot and if anyone near Chicago would like to shoot there I would readily introduce and recommend them.

Good hunting, everyone!

Isn't that just a ton of fun? I have done one of those before a few years ago. I shot four!

Great photos, it looks like you all had a great time.

Hello Ann,

Yes, it was great fun and we really enjoyed ourselves. This was my first pheasant shoot and I am surely going to do it again next year. Haven't started cooking my birds yet but they should make for a superb Christmas dinner.

Good hunting!

Mehul,

Great hunt!

Six weeks ago I had the pleasure of a week in North Dakota hunting pheasants. What great fun.

Best,
Curl

Any possibility of going for one of these pheasant shoots in summer i.e.may/june.I am usually in the States during this period and would love to bag a few birds.

Iqbal,

Most of them start hunting in September. During May and June the birds are raising babies.

Mehul,

Sounds like a good time. You will not be disappointed with the meat.

I'd love to do a pheasant hunt at some point. Just seems like the ideal upland bird hunt.

Mehul

Looks like you had and your friends had fun.

So how did the actual shoot go? Used dogs to flush the pheasants, or the pheasants were "driven" towards you?

Mehul--

Great hunt!!

Have hunted pheasant several times and always enjoyed it immemsely.

Sometimes when driving without dogs the birds will hold tight till you almost "step on them". My first pheasant was that way.Suprised the @#!#% out of me.

The breast of a pheasant is primo! Absolutely one of my favorites.

Cpt Curl,

Thanks. Indiana isn't South Dakota by a long shot but it was great fun indeed! We had members from an Indian hunting group from Michigan, Illinois and India and that was why we chose Indiana. Turned out to be an excellent choice, no doubt!

Iqbal,

We could do a hunt when you;re here depending on what's in season. Just keep me posted. There is a Pakistani hunting group that I am a member on and I have made some good friends there though none could join us for this shoot. It would be nice if we could catch up for some shooting and hunting when you're here. Always happy to shoot and hunt with friends!

Adam,

I hope to have pheasant for Christmas. Thanks, my friend. Yes, this is going to be good eating indeed!

John,

The dogs flushed the pheasants. It was interesting how the two dogs worked. The pointer would point at a bird and then on the guide's command, would flush it while the Lab would only point in a strange way - his tail would start rotating and he would freeze. The plantation does have a driven pheasant hunt where they have a tower which is rotated and birds are released but they need to have a minimum of 10 guns for that. We were a much smaller group and therefore we had to be content with a walk up and flush shoot. Not that I'm complaining. It was real fun - not the big game hunting that you do regularly, but fun nevertheless!

Hoppdoc,

This was my first pheasant shoot. In India it is banned and the only hunting permitted is under crop protection licenses for animals like boar, fox, rabbits and in some states nilgai. This was fantastic fun and I am sure that I shall do it year after year now.

Thanks everyone for the good words and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!
