Gun-Law Loophole Plays Role in Conn. Shooting

A loophole in Connecticut's gun-control laws enabled a man with mental
illness to carry a gun that he later used to kill a businessman, the
Hartford Courant reported Dec. 11.

According to Connecticut state police, William G. Adamson Sr. used a
black-powder revolver when he shot to death Steven Rex Roesler, the owner
of a computer sales and service company in Salem, Conn. Adamson had gotten
his computer fixed at Roesler's store, but then became delusional and
reportedly called the victim a child molester before shooting him.

Black-powder guns are exempt from state gun-control laws aimed at
preventing criminals and those with mental-health problems from obtaining
firearms. As a result of the loophole, Adamson did not have to undergo a
background check.

State Rep. Linda Orange (D-Colchester), who represents Salem, is among
several lawmakers considering a change to the law so that a permit and
background check would be required for black-powder pistol ownership. "I
think we should look at the whole issue of this gun," Orange said. "From
what I understand, [black-powder guns are] not too good for long range,
but close up it's a devastating piece."

Black-powder pistols work differently from traditional revolvers because
each bullet has to be preloaded with black powder and a cap.

How ridiculous!

These idiots think that just be requiring licences, registration, background checks etc everything suddenly becomes rosy and safe.

The reality is they will put more and more restrictions on people that don't need restricting because they won't make the real tough decisions to do what actually IS required.

Like keeping criminals locked up and away from law abiding people and punishing instead of "re-habilitating". Punishment before rehabilitation.

Like spending decent amounts of public funds on mental health so people with problems get help before they become problems.

Like limiting the amount of ridiculous on screen violence coming out of Hollywood (at the expense of good drama) which de-sensitises some youth to violence against other members of society. Instead of encouraging them to take out excess energy in sport, or a wholesome activity like hunting!

Just some of my views.

There is one part I find extremialy humorus in that stupid article the fact that the say blackpowder guns are short range and inacurete the longest shot in history ,the famaous two mile shot was made with a black powder sharps old reliable. It is still considered by many to be one of the finest long range weapons ever made. But these jackasses still don't get the point about thier stupid and unconstitutional gun laws. You are not preventing crime you are only makeing it easier for crimenals to commit crimes when you prevent the population from defending itself.

It used to be the same in Australia (or certainly a lot of states) before that idiot went on a rampage in Tasmania.

Black powder pistols used to be easily obtainable and I wanted to purchase a set of La Page (I think?) duelling pistols in .36 (just for fun and "plinking").

Now you are required to have a full pistol licence for black powder pistols and that means being a pistol target club member and accreditiation every year.

I assume they thought someone might rob a bank with their single shot BP pistol, or commit a mass murder - one person then reload for 3 minutes, then another, reload for 3 minutes, then another.........

longrange

Agreed the Sharps is a fine BP rifle.

This is very likely the first criminal misuse of a cap&ball revolver in the past 150 years! So let's pass another law!! No doubt that's the solution to such a problem!! Typical fool knee-jerk reaction of the typical eastern liberal moron!!
