Cultural Hunting in the Czech Republic
      #232669 - 19/07/13 12:36 AM

From another thread:

Good idea. A little inspiration here, perhaps...
http://www.cic-wildlife.org/index.php?id=823

Quote:
The Czech Committee of National Culture recently approved "Hunting traditions and management" on the national inventory list of intangible cultural heritage. After it’s official presentation in June this year, 3 detailed expert evaluations of the element were done and all of them were positive. Lastly, the national committee also approved the nomination unanimously without any opposition.

Thus the Czech Republic is the first country in the world to have general hunting recognised as national cultural heritage. This nomination was largely prepared by falconers. Thank you very much!

Czech Hunting is now legally protected and it will also have guaranty of financial support from Ministry of Agriculture, which is quite important in crisis time. .

From a 1950's Czech Hunting Book

"We found this wonderful 1950s Czech hunting book in the little used book shop where we picked up the falcon school chart below. It opens to the map above, detailing where native game could be found through the former Czechoslovakia, followed by countless photos of those species, humans hunting those species, and then humans filling their homes and bellies with them, as well."

Look at those bolts...wicked looking units

Unusual that there are the skull mounts of single antlered deer.As the Euro tradition is respect to the animal perhaps those singles gave great hunts.

The more I look at this, the more interesting it becomes! I thoroughly enjoy reviewing old hunting photographs as well as old photographs of gunmakers at their bench. So much we can often learn from these little jewels.

also note the "antler chairs" behind the rug!

Picture was taken at Ohrada castle, with a wonderful museum on hunting etc.

Has a great gun collection too.
Well worth a visit.

I stayed in the nearby "castle" which is a hotel. The museum is really worth a visit.

From what Ive been told its not far out of Prague. Google Earth shows some substantial forest just to the south on the way to Plizen.

OZhunter, as I am probably the only one member here on NE forum based in Czech Republic I wonder what is your particular target destination. I assume it might be the Colloredo Mansfeld - the largest private forest district area in CZ located near Plzen or the area at Hluboka. Once you have some pictures I would be glad to see your trophy...;)

If you plan to spend some time in Prague too and you are for the first time here, I could give you some tips what to visit. Just send me a PM.
