Sounds exciting, Erik- more so with your own dogs. That bull moose is a good one - a larger, nicer rack than most Euro bulls I've seen pictures of. I'd guess about 3 or 4 yrs. old.

Here, we can use dogs for hunting deer, elk, mose, mountain sheep, moutain goat and caribu, but they must be ALWAYS on the leash. Other game may be hunted with loose dogs - : grizzlies, black bear, lynx, bobcat, cougar or small game. Training of bird dogs is allowable, under supervision by allowing them to pursue game birds form August 1st to April 30th.

Thanks Erik. Another very interesting year no doubt.

Any wolves yet in your area?

Here we may use dogs for various birds and hounds for bear, lion, bobcat. Two years ago I worked thru the regulation change that now allows us to legally use dogs for following up wounded deer, elk and moose, but the dog must be leashed.

The bullet from yesterdays moose; a North Fork 9,3mm in 250 grain that now weighs 243 grain.

As for wolves, we had a problem with them last year, but luckily not this year.

Erik, nice pictures and a good story. We hunted also Moose today, in the area were 3 big bulls 12-18 points. They did pass several stands. Nobody were able to take a shot. Thats hunting.

Nothing is for certain when hunting Sville. The dogs pushed several moose pasts stands today, but the only one shot was a cow that came along all by itself from the other direction.

John, this year has thankfully gone very smoothly when it comes to moose hunting. Just a couple of calves left now.

Baby killer! You will never be allowed to join PETA at that rate.

I did my best to kill a 'baby' moose when I was there, but it wouldn't step away from its mother behind it ...

Hey! I've only shot moose cows this year. Unlike my wife who fits your discription, after having shot 2 calves so far.

Shooting Mommas doesnt help neither (to join PETA)

Dang - missed that one - sorry: "Coming late - looking great"

JK - nice going there Erik - Congratulations!
We are mostly done with Roes (5 or 6 fawns and 6 does left). Hardly waiting for driven hunts that are to start this weekend (waiting for leaves to fall off) - red calfs with mommas and boars...then there is Chamois rut starting in the 1st week of November...anyway thanks for sharing - Moose was THE trophy when I was a kid, then Africa came up...

93mouse,

Well done on your roe season. So you have a formal sort of cull/season?

Erik

Congratulations to AC for her calves?!

And your cows.

John all our hunting is basicaly a cull. All the game is owned by the state. Hunting grounds are given to us (we are organised by regional clubs) as a concessions. Strict quotas are set for every huntable specie - for instance - we have 40 Red deer to take this year - quota is divided into male and female and further on according to age:

Quota of 40 Red Deer for 2011 is divided:

8 fawn male
9 fawn female

3 yearlings male
4 yearlings female

8 stags (2+ years old) of which:

4 2-4 years old
3 5-9 years old
1 10 years old or older

8 hinds 2+ years old

We must meet the quota at least 90%...if we fail and we don't have a solid explanation why, we get a fine and a warning, if we fail again next year concession is taken away from us and is given to another group (hasn't happened yet tho).

93; How many hectares is your concession, and how many hunters?

Thanks...very interesting.
