LOP on Doubles
      30/01/06 10:21 AM

I'm not much of a double guy, and don't understand why it is that the LOP for a double needs to be, or should be, longer than for a single barreled weapon.

I understand that this is thought to be true for both rifles and shotguns, and especially for shotguns.

I like a 14.25" LOP on a rifle. I have tried double rifles and shotguns with LOPs as long as 15.5" and find anything over 14.5" to be too long. They are slow for me to mount--I actually have to think about it far too much for comfort--probably because I find that it's too easy to snag the butt of the weapon on my clothing while bringing it up to my shoulder.

Can anyone shed any light on why LOP is supposed to be longer for doubles?
