Does anyone shoot any of the Pedersoli BP doubles in any of the calibers here? I've been trying to come up with a double that I won't have to sell my soul to finance and Cabelas sells these for around $800 which I can afford. I'm thinking either .50 or .72, my concern is will the .72 stabilize conicals or is it a ball only gun? What kinds of velocities are you getting with what bullet weights? Thanks.

Good question. I think the Pedersoli BP doubles are attractive too. Only seen .58's (?) in Aust but I believe BP shotgun barrels (10 gauge?) are also available with the .72.

Also I believe they are not regulated and have sights for each barrel. Anyone used one?

I've had a muzzle loader double, but not a pedersoli. From what I have read the "only" one to get is the .72 as it has the correct twist rate. Forget about conicals in the .72 - it was designed for round ball. One thing to note, never cock both hammers, it will double! Cock-shoot, cock-shoot.

I have a 54 Pedersoli double. It has never given me any problems as far as doubling is concerned. I've since picked up a 58 but am having trouble finding conicals for it.

The 54 has a slow twist so I'm going to try round balls.

Thanks gents, I would really rather have the .72 anyway, just thought that the .50 would hold better promise for bullet choices. If it's a round ball only affair that makes it easy, you don't really need to worry about expansion at 3/4 inch anyway. A word about powder, how much better is pyrodex than regular BP? Cleaner burning, less smoke?

Hi,
I have one in .72, but I only shot the roundball yet, loaded with 110 grains BP (FFG). I ordered some paradox bullets to get out if they work.
The accuracy is approx. 5" at 50 meters, but I have not started to work on a more precise load. It has 2 foldable and adjustable sights.
Itīs a lot of fun to shoot with, and thatīs what I am using it for.
Tom

Gentlemen with Pedersolis

I read somewhere the Pedersoli doubles have dual sights ie one for each barrel. Is this correct or did I read rubbish? Thanks.

Yes - but if the gun is "regulated", you can use the sights for two ranges.

I read several times now that the Pedersolis have one sight per barrel. Mine and all the others Iīve seen (BP and breech loader) have not.
I post some pics of my .72 BP
Iīm not a professional with cameras, but I hope you can see the details.

Thanks again guys, I appreciat the video clips they kind of show what I wanted to know, Thanks Tom-Bigbore. The next hurdle I believe will be finding one, Cabelas has them on backorder and has been that way for a while so I hear. I'll try to post some pics when and if I find one.

NFrame,
I've been wanting to find out more about the Kodiak .45-70 made by Pedersoli but haven't found anyone that owns one. If you know of anyone in our area, please let me know.
I'm in southern IN. about an hour from Louisville. Thanks

My brother owned an early Kodiak. It had browned bbls that had no taper. It shot very well with every load we shot in it. All loads would stay on the same 6" circle at 50 yards, except 2 which grouped very good just at the bottom of the bull. We contacted Pederolosi[sp] and they stated the rifle was safe for any load safe in the Marlin Lever.
We shot Garretts and Cor-Bon loads as well as handloads with out problem.
The newer Kodiak rifles are slimmer in the bbls and nicer finished. They also make a 9,3x74R and a 8x57.

NFrame,
One thing I forgot to ask you...How far from Louisville, KY are you? I'm only an hour from Louisville, if convenient sometime perhaps we could get together and chat.

Tom and others,

How do you Kodiaks shoot?

I've been thinking about getting a 58 caliber one and restocking it. Putting some nice back action locks on it, and a traditional express sight...
