Watching double rilfes being made..
      #251362 - 31/07/14 10:03 PM

Was at a local gunsmith's shop yesterday for a while watching him make a double out of a shotgun action.

This gunsmith had worked in the past with the Searcy shop and has a fascination on doubles..yesterday he had a Vickers action and had put on the barrels chambered for a 450Nitro..

He was taking it out back and shooting it,coming back in taking .010 off the shims, shooting the again, on and on..found this incredibly interesting to watch and see the entire process..with all the workmanship involved.

Puts it all into perspective a bit on the cost of a double..not the $180,000 ones but the ones in the $10-20,000 price range...

This gunsmith is building 2 more with different actions..one a WR action. He builds them to clients measurements, etc to make it more of a custom fit without the 100k price tag.. curious to see how this progresses..and very interesting to have this within a half hour driving distance from my office..

Thanks for posting!
What calibre was he putting on the shotgun action? Any idea what sort of cost would it be for one of his projects?

He was building a 450Nitro...using the next one to build a 500Nitro...

It was very interesting to see how the work was done to change the firing pins and the internal changes needed in the action for the Nitro charges...a lot more involved than just putting on a couple of new barrels...

Have no idea right now what the projected cost will be but he said he plans to be competitive with the marketplace and it will be custom built to your specifications..

Take care
