Army and Navy records

Do serial number records exist for Army and Navy? I picked up a 12 bore double rifle, SN 518 on triggerguard, and would like to find any info I can on it. Jones, damascus re-proofed in London for nitro, non rebounding bar locks, wedge forend fastener.

I have emailed U of Glasgow about this, just was wondering if anyone has any info here!

I've read that the records do exist. I emailed a lady at a University (Maybe it was Glasgow?) about a rifle. But she didn't have what I needed to find.
