Looks a lot like Bailey's design.

Both the Purdey and the V/C in the video are made from Damasteel, which is not made like traditional damascus. Technicaly it is the same as the billet is made of two different steels in a multitude of alternating layers. Damasteel is made by filling a baffled canister with powdered metals. Each baffle receives the alternate of the previous baffle. Once filled, the baffles are removed and the mass is heated and made solid under high pressure. The billet is then drawn and patterned. The Purdey and V/C were both made from twisted billets.

Damasteel is a fine material. Powdered metals have benefits over tradtionaly melted steels. From an artistic view however, it is a little stale. A good comparison would be a hand made item compared to a mass produced item. All of this sounds like I am running it down. That's not my intention. I used damasteel on some of my knives from time to time since it can be made in stainless steels. One of the things I enjoy about making damascus is the subtle differences in each billet put there during the forging/folding/welding process. Etching each piece is like opening a gift box to see what is different. Damasteel, to their credit, is so consistent, I know exactly what to expect.

Damasteel is a interesting product. For those that are not familiar with the company.

At Dallas and Reno I will have a V-C 9.3x74 with a receiver similar to the gun in the video
