Vaseline/Rangoon oil, one last visit to this PRESERVATIVE
      #140348 - 11/08/09 05:01 AM

Previously, on posts, I asked about the early use of Vaseline and Rangoon oil bottles in double rifle oak and leather cases, and I thank everyone for the welcomed and good responses; it cleared up numerous questions. With that information, clearly, both vaseline and rangoon oil were used as metal preservatives to protect against corrosion/rust, rather than for lubrication purposes. In view of that, why were they BOTH used and included in gun/rifle cases, was it that the vaseline was more for long term storage protection, while the rangoon oil was more for short term storage protection as the rangoon oil was more easily/quickly removed from the guns/rifles?
