400/360 Evans - Range Report
      #74606 - 26/03/07 07:03 AM

I just returned from the range with the Evans I picked up from the Julia's Auction.

With IMR 4064 I was able to get a 4 shot 1.5" group with 286 Woodleighs softs. The 400/360 is a very pleasant gun to shoot and since it's a 9.3 there is a good selection of suitable bullets.

Definately need to slug the bores on this caliber as there can be a bit of variation. This gun slugs .365 for both barrels.

I owe 400 Nitro Express for turning me onto the 400/360s.

Good to hear.

Which 400/360 is your gun proofed for ?

Purdey, Evans or one of the others.

Lucky for you it's .365 - easy bullet availability.

IMHO, the 400/360 is one of the most underated
calibres -not so much for hutning but for owning
in a DR. Light, easy to shoot etc. It has everything
going for it.

I have a WR Droplock in 400/360.

This one is chambered for the Purdey round. I've only seen them chambered for the Westley or Purdey haven't run across the others yet. My other Evans 360 is chambered in the Purdey as well and measures .3645. They both are great shooters.

Interesting.

Most people I know just use .366 bullets in them all,
some bump them up or swage them down but most just leave
them at .366.

470evans,

Congratulations and do post pictures here. Wouldn't you show off if you had Scarlett Johansson on your arm?

Good hunting!

I don't mean to be too picky, but you "sawge" bullets when going up, and "draw" when going down...

DM: That's too weird, mate.

I 'bump up' and 'swage down', too.

Just because we're 'Down Under', no need to poke fun!

The proper term is to "swage" a bullet up or "draw" it down... "If" you order bullet makeing dies from any source, this is the way those two terms are used...

Ever hear of "bullet swageing"???? That's makeing jacketed bullets... Did you ever hear it said, "bullet drawing"???
