Gun screws?

Does anyone have a good source for firearms screws? I need uncoated slotted wood screws and machine screws. All I can find locally are Phillips or worse Robertson.

It's pretty much a make your own situation. Especially if you want slave heads. The slots on readily available wood screws are quite wide, and look rather unattractive on a gun. Besides, the thread form is not right for English guns.

I made a dozen wood screws just yesterday for a stocker of best quality guns.

I'm sure you can. But a good hand with a small manual machine could probably make enough of them to see you out before a CNC guy could write the program. CNC machines have their place, but they often are not the magic bullet for simple short run items that a lot of people think they are.

My bro & the local gun smith gets ALL of their gun screws from Brownell's.

A variation on the same question - if a screw is missing, but you don't know the thread pattern, exact length, diameter, etc., what's the best way to find out? I have several rifles that have been drilled for scope mounts and I'd like to at least hide the ugly holes by filling them with well matched screws. I assume one needs to order an assortment from Brownell's and do it by trial and error, or buy some kind of expensive gauge?

Making small screws on a manual lathe sucks! And a good guy on a Cnc machine can write a program faster than I can type this.

I have been machining for over twenty years. And I run/ program in my head. We just don't have a Cnc lathe at my work. Only a very large mill(60" travel x axis)

I will try brownells again. I look at them a while ago on another custom build and wasn't impressed.

Brownell's carry 18 different sizes of un-plated, flat-head wood screws!

I just make what I need but in the past I have bought screws from CSMC. A lot of it is perspective I guess. To me it is as much work buying a blank and trying to get it to fit properly as is just walking over to the rack of dies and grabbing the proper too and making one. Different strokes for different folks.
