http://www.mamut.com/vaapen/subdet411.htm

This will be in a little while my next rifle, its a husquarna 648 in 9.3x62 . It has been reblued and it has gotten a new stock.

The price is ca 700 dollars (US)

Well i heve never had one 9.3 before, and never shot one, so this will be fun and interessting for me .

Why i will buy this ? Well im planning a little trip to Zimbabwe on a course there and the 9.3 is minimum for big game/ Dangerous game there. Plus they have much ammo for it down there.

have also a 8x57 Is that one is on a 648 aswell, hmm spare parts if something happens to one rifle in the field perhaps.?

Its a nice rifle this 9.3 and its famous here in Scandinavia as one cartridge for everything.

Combined with execellent bullets, brass, powder and a use for very much different hunting here and there, its just superb.

Rhino 300 grain bullet for closeup work. Swift, Woodleigh , perhaps Norma Plastictip for lion . i know of a PH in Botswana that used that load on lion culling.

zaitsev,

Beautiful Rifle!! Yours probably started out looking like my old 649 in 9,3X62. I also have a bit newer one in 30-06, but the 9,3X62 is my favorite. They are great shooting rifles, and my 9,3 is the best shooting of all the rifles I own.

I love the stock on yours. Good Going!

WEll, what ammo i will use in the rifle is still a question, Woodleigh, nosler, swift, Rhino, and some others.

Partizan makes cheap bullets for 9.3mm so there it is a huge amount of bullets at a low cost for practice.

Excellent solids is there also for the 9.3mm.

I read through the scripture a couple of days ago of his holiness John Taylor, his sayings about the cartridges then is so real that they can be said about them now.

It was delightful rifle to carry around then that packed a good punch and its a fine rifløe to carry around now.

The 286 grs bullet is used much over here for various hunting, moose and in sweden after bear and wild boar aswell. With those animals that can be a little cranky, some extra grains are needed, but also a little bit larger diameter on the round too is good to have

the 9,3x62 was a marvelous cartridge then and it is now a wonderfull metric.

Well when that rifle gets here, i will have a nice rifle that is allowed for big game in Zimbabwe and with a good reason, its the bullets that makes a cartridge good or bad.

Zaitsev - a Ugoslav hunter, 2 years ago just a bit West of here, dropped a large grizzly at 25 paces using a single Sako 9.3x62 factory load. As with many factory loads, this one was loaded to the typical low velocity with it's 286gr. Norma plastic-tippd bullet. From the hunter's 22" barrel Mann. it probably was well below 2,300fps. It din't matter to that 8 foot bear. Bang - splat - lights out.
: John Taylor's praise for the round was for it's then factory loadings of around 2,180fps with the 286g. bullet.
: I've been led to understand that the 270gr.Speer was originally made for the Salvian countries and should be available there. In my own 9.3x62, I managed just over 2,600fps with moderately high pressure using BLC2 powder. Although I never got around to using it for hunting, I did a lot of work developing it's loads.
: I've always been fond of the medium bores due to their ease of shooting accurately. Bullet placement is paramount and the 9.3x62 is fully capable of getting the job done, with about any bullet designed for it. In a good bore, I'd be inclined to test thoroughly, the Barnes "X" bullets now available. I've found Tripleshocks and the blue coated XLC's to be incredibly accurate in all calibres tested so far. Be sure to start testing them .040" to .050" off the lands befoe seating closer.

EXCELLENT,as I've just bought the last 3 boxes of this exact ammo.

I read in a Norwegian magazine about a PH in botswana who had used a Oberndorf Mauser 98 i 9.3x62 . He was issued a .458 , but it dint behave so good as the slick little 9.3.

Besides he said in that article that the bullet he preferred for lionculling, was :" that Swedish one with the yellow tip"

Norma Silverblixt in other words, I know that this particular bullet is popular for driven hunts in various calibers.

And some PH`s in Zimbabwe i hev corresponded with likes the Woodleigh bullets for their various hunting so since im planning alittle trip to Zim, not exactly a hunting trip but to go down there andand see how the PH`s train before there exam at Rifa. Minimum rifle there is 9.3x62 due to that the big game can turn up very unexpecdtly ....

And at that point you cant have a .300 Win mag with you....

The .300 mag has nothing on the 9.3. It would be as good only if it could shoot a 286gr. to 300gr. 9.3" bullet.

That was just something i put in, i have one , but the rifle i hoped of bribg down was a Shultz6Larsen in .358 norma Magnum with 310 grain bullets, but that wasnt allowed in Zimbawe, so that why i have ordered the 9.3x62

The 9.3x64 would be in a closer power match to the .358 Norma Mag., however the effect on game would probably not reflect any advantage.
; The 9.3x62 can easily be loaded to impressive ballistics, over 4,000fpe if that's necessary (or used to judge power).
; IT is a very FINE round, factory loaded or with handloads.

Yes the 9,3x64 is more like the .375 H&H , it can propel a 320 grain bullet at 770 meters if i dont rember wrong so its hell on wheels to put it like that.

It will be fun when the rifle arrive and shooting pratice commences .

Zaitsav,
I must say I have enjoyed Hunting in Zimbabwe with my Blaser 9.3x62 using Woodleigh 286grn softs and solid , 300grn SWIFT A FRAMES and RWS H-mantels and TUGs on most plains game up to Lion, Hippo , Eland and a few Buff.
On my next trip coming up for Elephant and plains game my second rifle will be my Husky FN 9.3X62 with Woodleigh 286grn softs and 320grn solids.
The 9.3 is a nice Caliber for Zimbabwes Thorn Veldt.

I have never tried a 9,3 before and since im getting my M70 turned into the .404 Jeffrey in a while, it will be two rifles to carry everywhere on various hunting.

And the zimbabwe guys likes the 9,3mm very good, they swear fot it at much diifferent game , all big game and much more.

I've used a 9.3 (either 9.3x62 or 9.3x74R) on each of my trips to Africa. Loads using the Swift A Frame 250 gr. bullets at a mild 2450-2500 fps worked well.

LOVE the performance experienced so far on animals from Steenbuck to Eland. Even does a nice job on white tails here in the north country.

Recently got a 9.3x64. I'm excited about the potential and can't wait for the weather to warm up so I can test the loads I've put together for it using the 286 gr. North Forks.

The 9.3x64 will stay mine and my wife will go to Botswana on our plains game hunt armed with her 6.5x55 and my former 9.3x62.

Hello all and greetngs from the coast of Maine!

I am having a pair of matched rifles built in 375 H & H and would like to ask any of the forum members to comment on the caliber in comparison to the 9.3 x 62 viewed from the perspective of a caliber for all hunting applications. That is my intent with the gun and after reading this forum would liek to hear from others with experience in both.

Thanks,

Jeff

If I understand your post, Jeff, you're asking what US round is close in performance to the 9.3x62.
: The closest US round to the 9.3x62 is a .35 Whelen, but it's ballistics are only close to the underloaded 9.3x62 factory ammo. Handloaded, the 9.3x62 is a couple hundred fps stronger than that. The .35 Whelen Improved pretty much duplicates the 9.3x62, but, on the low side, while the .375 Whelen Improved is a bit faster with the same bullet weights, so those two Improved rounds bracket the 9.3x62. This happens when the 9.3x62 is loaded to it's best ballistics. There is no USA factory round (that I am aware of) that duplicates a properly loaded 9.3x62. It's current Sako ballistics are circa 1925.
: If you look at the measurements of the 9.3x62 - you will see a ctg. that has the dimensions of an improved .30/06 case, with the shoulder moved slightly forward and slightly shallower shoulder angle. The .375 Hawk/Scovil was originally a 9.3x62 necked up to .375, but Scovil reduced the head dimensions to that of the slightly smaller '06 for ease of making brass. Thus, he was able to drop the Hawk name. Barnes gives data on the .375 Scovil as well as a google search will bring up more data.
: Indeed, when I first bought my 9.3x62, I merely necked some older .375/06IMP brass down for the .366" bullet and they chambered perfectly.
: My currect .375/06IMP, wiht larger shoulder, has about 2 gr. more capacity than the 9.3x62, virtually the same potential - I get 2,470fps with 300gr. Bonded Hornady's, over 2,600fps with 270gr. and 2,845fps with 235's for long range deer/black bear shooting. These are maximum loads for shooting in the summer heat.

Daryl,

Actually I was asking for other forum members to share their experiences with the 375 H&H and compare it to their experiences with the 9.3 x 62mm. I apologize for the confusion.

Sorry for misunderstaning your post - for me, the .375 and 9.3x62 killed about the same on North American big game up to moose and elk - virtualy no difference. Of course, there was little difference in the ballistics. I was shooting 270gr. from the .375H&H at 2,740fps and 270gr. Speers from the 9.3x62 at 2,675fps - only 65fps differene = no difference.
; I did not use the low powered factory-type ammo as in the 1920's loaded stuff - 286gr. at 2,320fps or so, but on game, it too is probably very similar to the .375 factory ammo. Only on really heavy game like buffalo or elephant, might there be a difference, maybe not.
: The late Finn Agaard said as much - little or no diff. on game.
