Aussie Engraver

I pick up the engraving on my 7x57 project tomorrow from my engraver, Ron Coxon. He has sent me a picture of the Eland head he has engraved on a floor plate for my 9.3x62.

I will post more photos tomorrow night of the fore sight.

It's nothing flash, fairly minimalist but to my taste and exactly what I wanted. The image is from Rowland Ward. It will be rust blued by Tony Small (AFRO408).

Ok I've talked to Ron Coxon today and got his permission to post prices. Just a courtesy thing as far as I'm concerned. Here is what this has cost me at todays prices:

stippling to front sight $80.00
scroll to each side of front sight $200.00
lettering to barrel [KAL.7x57] $30.00
polish floor plate and engrave eland $280.00

Ron has been working hard over Christmas and has caught up with his work load. he is open for orders. I'd be quick as Alex Beer has asked him to do all the engraving on his double and other rifles.

Ron will be at the Wild Deer and Game Expo with David Stendall

http://www.wilddeer.com.au/hunting-guiding-expo.html

My floorplate will be on display down there along with other examples of Ron's work

You can contact Ron on: 02 6765 8425 at Tamworth

Very nice trophet1.
My smith uses Ron on occasions and I might get him to pass on my projects to have some writing in old English and Stippiling done.

Ron's real speciality is fine english scroll but also works on jewellery, fob watches, knives, does monogramming (pistol grips, floor plates etc), revolvers and also renovation work re-cutting engraving and stampings on older firearms.

Thanks for posting those engraving photos tophet1. Very nice work by the looks. That foresight is a unique shape too - I like it.

Cheers.

The foresight is a bespoke item made from a lump of steel by AFRO408 to fit this rifle.

Nice work and seemingly reasonable prices. Can receivers finished with 'tinite' be engraved later?

Super work - be sure and show us the whole rife when she's done! I love the spare, ghostly eland floating out of the floorplate. Gorgeous. Not having a border makes it really unique - I've never seen work quite like it.

I know very little about engraving but I'm getting to realise there is a very strong perception that engraving should fill a traditional 'look'. While no rifle IMHO is complete without some engraving work, why should it fit stereotypes or traditional patterns ?

I would like to see less of a european influence on engraving and more of a colloquial influence on rifles from around the world.
