Camel Skull Score
      #186671 - 27/07/11 05:54 PM

After my recent camel hunt, I only brought back the top half of my 'Old Boys' skull.

I had to rope it under the tray of the ute to get it home and boil it up.

A shoulder mount would take up considerable space and I'm not sure one has been done here in Oz.

The brain cavity reaches from the eye socket to the very rear of the skull.

Apart from the Australian Bowhunters Association (ABA) I could find no organisation that accepted Camel measurements as a trophy. The ABA use a modified Douglas score. I measure from rear to front of the skull (in a straight line), the width at the widest point and the width of the canines. This is measured in inches and round up to the nearest 1/8". I got 32" which if I had shot it with a bow, would have made number 4 here in Oz.

Thx to Blacks for helping me score this skull.

That looks really good! It'll make a good addition to the den or back verandah or something!

THAT is quite the canine tooth - I've never occured to me that a camel would have anything but flat-topped grass eaters up front - that is amazing. Is there something on the lower jaw to match it? Another one - or flat topped teeth?

Pleasure John, it's certainly a bloody big lump of bone. There's something very prehistoric about it actually!

Regarding the shoulder mount - not my cup of tea really, but they've certainly been done...

Their teeth can be brutal! I have seen a chunk of bloody flesh dangling from the flank of a bull after a fight.

Hummm John I think a Camel shoulder mount would not see the inside of your house, Look good in the shed though.
