Nice Representative Head

Had a successful hunt for chital on the weekend, thanks to a good mate who needed the passenger-seat in his Hilux filled. Had to borrow one of his "modern" rifles due to relatively short notice and no workable ammunition for the Jeffery Mannlicher. It will have to wait till next time!

Managed to close on two stags, this one in hard antler and one in velvet, and bagged a lone hind for additional venison. A few rabbits and pigs also bit the dust, and a single feral cat was a bonus. All in all, a very enjoyable few days back in Far North Queensland, my old stomping ground of a quarter-century past!

I was only saying last week I want to get there myself!

Great head, mate.

Staffan,

This is a good pic of a chital for you to look at.

Well somebody had to ask!
The rifle was at least a classic calibre of a sort: the 6.5x55 Swede. Projectiles were 129gr SSTs driven flat out.
Ruger Hawkeye in a Boyds stock, topped with a big Swarovski: very functional unit.

Could take the Kurz Mauser next time....
...but my Jeffery Mannlicher with cocking-piece peep has deer-stalking written all over it!

In all fairness when a rifle is that ugly, having it in a classic cartridge is like putting lipstick on a bush pig!

I was hoping you were going to say you got him close to home.....
Pity about the lack of ammunition to the "Proper" rifle.

Only just saw this thread, he'll certainly look good on the wall. Starting to think some of you chaps don't like modern rifles......
