Introduction Of Lion and Leopard in NT @ Qnsland
      #11281 - 10/03/04 06:51 AM

After hunting in Northern Australia for a couple of weeks a few years ago, it appeared to me that establishment of hunting preserves with a full compliment of African animals would be a goldmine for the future. I know its sort of naive, but consider this, the idiot governments in Africa are eventually going to drive all the foreign hunters out with all the regs, if not the inpending danger of getting to the hunt sites.

Looking twenty years in the future, wouldn't there be merit in this??? Of course, through the years animals have been transplanted which have become problems . Like rabbits, etc.; but wouldn't buffalo and banteng be considered a success. Imagine, being able to hunt the big 5 in Aussie land with few hassles.

Just dreaming! Dak

Without hassels?? I don't get that!

Remember you have the following big problems to fight;

Snakes (much more dangerous than africans), Crocs (not leagal to shot) and at last the Aussies that will propably drink all the beer in front of the client......

There are Gemsbok and also Blackbuck. Weren't a few Lions brought in years ago?

The Eland I know about on a station on the Gulf of Carpenteria aren't doing so well. They have been there 80 -90 years and still are only hanging on.

Its amazing what is out there. Mickey, I forgot who mentioned it to me.

South Australia (and Western Australia) would be magnificent eland and gemsbok country. Fat chance the government would ever let them in in any numbers.

Lions? We had a lion park locally a couple of decades only and when it folded the lions were sold live to taxidermists who shot them and mounted them for sale.

The early settlers made a big mistake bringing in deer and not impala, blackbuck, gemsbok, zebra, kudu etc. A few elephants on Tasmania would not have gone astray either.

Seriously our government is so anti-guns and anti-hunting that they would probably jail someone trying to import large amounts of "endangered" animals from Africa for "thrill-killing" by "gun-happy" sportsmen and women.

Lions and leopards simply would not work in northern Australia - those bloody big bastard pigs would eat them alive!
